Wesley Granberg-Michaelson has served as General Secretary of the Reformed Church in America since 1994. He was the first managing editor of Sojourners magazine and has also worked with the World Council of Churches, Christian Churches Together in the USA, the Global Christian Forum, and Call to Renewal.
We were delighted to have Wes visit us to talk about his inspiring memoir, Unexpected Destinations: An Evangelical Pilgrimage to World Christianity. This book has been very well received, and Diana Butler Bass sums up why:
At last. An honest memoir about the challenges of Christian leadership in our time. Retracing his lifelong quest to follow Jesus, Wes Granberg-Michaelson inverts the usual “Great Man” success story in favor of a deeply personal tale of how God uses flawed human beings and imperfect institutions to transform the world. Through a journey riddled with questions, doubt, conflict, and some regrets, he takes us across the globe to the unexpected destination of God’s future of unity, justice, and hope.
Brian McLaren says Wes is “one of the finest people I’ve met” and, suggesting people read his memoir, recommends they get to know him! Find out who else responded equally enthusiastically to this global church leader’s life story when you read how quickly the endorsements for his book came in. What’s more, find out for yourself what makes this man so highly respected and admired when you watch the two-part interview with Wes below.
On Saturday, June 18, during General Synod 2011, the RCA will hold a ceremony in honor of Wesley Granberg-Michaelson’s retirement. You can watch the event live from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (EDT) on Vimeo.
