In his contribution to our recent Festschrift (Horizons in Hermeneutics) in honor of Anthony C. Thiselton, James D. G. Dunn dubbed Thiselton the “prince of present-day hermeneuts.”

We think the moniker — superlative though it is — an apt one, and we’re proud to have published many of Thiselton’s books over the years. In fact, not counting Stanley Porter and Matthew Malcolm’s Festschrift (which came out in April), we’ve had the privilege of releasing two Thiselton books in the past month alone: a paperback edition of his NIGTC commentary on 1 Corinthians and his comprehensive new study on the Holy Spirit.

We’re so pleased, in fact, at this wave of new Thiselton titles that we’ll be giving copies away this week on EerdWord to celebrate.

Read on to find out how you can become one of two lucky readers who will receive copies of the following two books:

The Holy SpiritThe Holy Spirit — In Biblical Teaching, through the Centuries, and Today

In this book, Anthony Thiselton offers a detailed biblical, historical, and contemporary study of the Holy Spirit. Thiselton presents an up-to-date account of biblical teaching on the topic, including exposition of passages and hermeneutics, and offers a comprehensive historical survey from the Apostolic Fathers to Jonathan Edwards. In the last part of his book Thiselton discusses a remarkably wide range of recent writings on the Holy Spirit from the nineteenth century to the present day, interacting both with Pentecostals and the Renewal Movement in a sympathetic, positive, yet critical manner.

“I have often thought that I would like to round off my writing career with a fuller or more complete study of the Holy Spirit. Rather to my relief I need no longer chomp at that bit. Tony Thiselton has already done it and left me nothing to do. Thank you, Tony.”
— James D. G. Dunn

“Magisterial! Brilliant! Erudite! Anthony Thiselton offers a sure-handed overview of the biblical teachings on the Spirit, maps the major historical streams of pneumatological reflection, and charts the important trajectories going forward. . . . This book bridges heretofore divergent polemics and opens up new dialogical horizons and possibilities for the contemporary theological task.”
— Amos Yong

1 Corinthians (NIGTC)The First Epistle to the Corinthians
(The New International Greek Testament Commentary)

New in paperback!

In this detailed, definitive, and distinctive commentary, Anthony Thiselton provides in-depth discussion of the language of 1 Corinthians, presents his own careful translation of the Greek, traces the main issues of interpretation from the church fathers to the present, and highlights topics of theological, ethical, and sociohistorical interest today.

“The volume’s comprehensive scope demonstrates Thiselton’s command of both this letter and the wider issues of Pauline studies. The exegesis is careful and rigorously represents the various interpretations available for nearly every passage. . . The volume is extremely lucid for such a technical work and will serve the field of New Testament studies for many years to come. . . Highly recommended.”
